Vic Hearing Augmentation and Soundfield Handbook rules explained explained – Part 8

The new May 2022 Building Quality Standards Handbook of the Victorian School Building Authority not only state clearly what education construction stakeholders need to do, but also offer direction on what not to do.

At page 127 it is stated:

“Hearing augmentation systems … must not be installed in teaching spaces:

  • Wi-Fi primary transmission
  • induction loops in ceilings or underfloor coverings
  • infrared systems (noting infrared sound field is permissible subject to above criteria)”

Wi-Fi is prohibited, as are traditional induction solutions and solutions others that involve a wall mounted infra-red emitter which relies on a learner wearing a neck loop.

Hear and Learn technology works with any type of current and future transmission system.
