In March 2022, Bluetooth® SIG introduced Auracast™, a groundbreaking technology now being integrated into the latest hearing aids. This innovation means there is an additional platform for hearing augmentation.
With the introduction of Auracast™-enabled hearing aids, it’s now more important than ever for hearing augmentation systems in new school construction to be non-proprietary and compatible with multiple hearing aid brands. Schools should avoid solutions limited to specific receivers, ensuring that students benefit from the latest advancements in accessibility. Into the future there can be one learner wearing an aid with a Phonak Roger receiver, a Signia receiver, a Auracast receiver and other users relying on old-School TSwitch aides.
The first hearing aid to feature an active Auracast™ receiver was released in 2024 by GN Resound Nexia, followed closely by other leading brands, including Starkey Edge AI, Oticon Intent, Signia IX, Phonak Infinio, and Cochlear N8. By 2025, all major hearing aid manufacturers will have Auracast™-compatible models.
At Hear and Learn, we uphold the philosophy of “All Audio to All Ears. Always.” Our UConnect education hearing augmentation solutions ensure that any transmitter can connect to any receiver, eliminating the risk of outdated proprietary systems. Schools investing in our technology can confidently future-proof their buildings, ensuring seamless compatibility with evolving hearing aid advancements.
While some manufacturers are still implementing Auracast™ streaming, it is expected that full adoption will occur by the end of 2025. This presents a unique opportunity for architects, electrical consultants, and electricians in the education sector to adopt agile, forward-thinking hearing augmentation solutions.
By embracing innovation, schools can create truly inclusive learning environments that support students with hearing impairments—today and into the future. Contact Hear and Learn today to discover how to integrate the latest technology into new school construction.
